Have Fun with Your Space!

Picture is courtesy of HGTV.com. Remember your home should be a place where you can relax and unwind. Your furniture should reflect your lighter side. Have fun. Break out the paint and fun fabrics.

Office Hues

Brigtht, bold fabrics and finishes are just not limited to the home. Commercial buildings and offices can greatly benefit from a punch of color.  Energize a tired office space and increase employee alertness and productivity.

Lay the Groundwork

Paint and upholstery upgrades can only improve a space so much. Sometimes the floor needs a little help. Flor provides a versatile and easy to maintain flooirng. The carpet tiles can be laid wall to wall or used to create a rug.  Textures vary from low pile to shag and everything in between. Colors can be neutral and laid back to bright and full of life. Many patterns and solids are available in multiple color palettes.

Painted Stools from 2 Design Houses

Need to add a splash of color to any room? Try one of these painted stools. They provide an extra seat or help with out of reach items. With these vibrant colors the stools stand out, hopefully keeping tripping hazards to a minimum.

The Offcut Stool is designed by TomDixon (http://www.tomdixon.net/), a British manufacturing company across the pond.

The Vollen Painted Stool can be found at Chadhaus (http://www.chadhaus.com/) located in Seattle.

Rubens Beech Chair Redressed

I used Carnegie fabric called Ohm in color number 11. I have a few other fabrics in mind to try and maybe change the color of the chair itself.

What is that - Velvet?

Indeed the Rubens beech chair is covered in velvet threads.  Itailian furnishings manufacturer Fratelli Boffi produces the seat in three colors: Slate, Primrose, and Sky. I would love to see a seat like this in a more pet- and child-friendly fabric and maybe in a few pattern choices.  It would be suitable for any room of the house - master bedroom, office, living room, dining room, etc.  Now that I'm thinking about it, it could hold it's own in a few comercial office settings as well. I'm hoping to get some time this evening to pull this into photoshop and play with a few other fabrics.

Are You Ready to be "Refreshed" in 2010?

One of Sherwin-Williams four 2010 Colormix trends is called "Refreshed".

This palette of six colors can be incorporated into any space and in any combination. Not all six have to be used. I created a collage of products using the entire palette. Below are three fabrics from Maharam (Ditto, Dotring, and Optik), and three products from Crate and Barrel (Glossy frame set, Solano bowl, and Hayward pillow).

Introducing Hemingway to Maharam

This is the Anselmo side chair from Thomasville's Ernest Hemingway Collection painted a inky black.  The fabric is dot ring in apple from Maharam. This would look perfect in a dining room with matching black table and apple-colored accents or singularly placed in front of a secretary desk.

(Home) Fashion Repeats Itself

There has been an ongoing revolution of painted wood vs natural wood grain. In the 90s we saw painted furniture as the "it" trend and then in the early 2000s there was the call back to nature and "bringing the outside indoors". It is my opinion that painted furniture will once again come back around. Ha! Just when people stripped their painted cabinets of that white lacquer.

This new blog will showcase a few pieces that I think deserve a fresh coat and new threads. Gone are days of boring florals and dark woods. I welcome the bright fabrics of Robert Allen, Maharam, and other upholstery threads.  I think it's perfect that Robert Allen has partnered with Sherwin-Williams for the new palettes for 2010. There is nothing more refreshing and energizing as a coat of fresh paint.
